Gaza War: UN agency accused of helping in Hamas attack, many countries stopped funding after Israel’s claim

Following Israel’s allegations, countries that have halted funding include the US, Australia, Canada, Britain, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland and Finland.

Many countries, including America, have stopped funding to the United Nations agency working for refugees. In fact, Israel has claimed that the staff of the UN agency had also helped in the attack on their country by Hamas on October 7. The countries that have stopped funding include the US, Australia, Canada, Britain, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland and Finland. The agency whose funding has been stopped is UNRWA.

‘Its stain will be on all of us’
UNRWA is an agency working for refugees and has an important role in providing humanitarian aid in Gaza. This is the reason why when countries announced to stop the agency’s funding, the agency’s Commissioner General Philip Lazzarini expressed grief over it and said that ‘Palestinians of Gaza should not be punished any more. Its stain will be on all of us. Lazzarini said the decision to stop funding will affect the humanitarian work they are doing and will especially worsen the problem in Gaza. UNRWA said on Friday that the allegations against its staff are being investigated.

UNRWA was formed in 1948 to help refugees.
Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz accused UNRWA of having links with Islamic terrorists and advised that after the end of the fighting in Gaza, this agency should be replaced by someone else. Should be replaced by another agency. UNRWA was formed in 1948 to help refugees from Gaza, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria. This agency has been providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians since Israel’s attack on Gaza.

Hussein al-Sheikh, head of the Palestine Liberation Organization, said that stopping the agency’s aid could lead to a serious political and humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He appealed to the countries that had stopped funding to withdraw their decision. Germany is the largest donor to UNRWA and welcomed the investigation. Germany has said that ‘it is extremely concerned by Israel’s allegations and we will not tolerate any kind of violence among the staff of the UN agency.’
